Logging

Logging

  • Global log templates

If you have some text or some numbers that you always use in all your logs, the best way to ensure you get them correct is to create a global template that contains all of those lines you want to have. You will also avoid having to write it all several times, as you may build your trip specific template upon a global template. And having a global template is nice in order to have templates to use for those single finds that you do not have a trip for.

  • Logging with cachetur

When your trip is over, you now can log your findings while at the computer back home. In order to have logs to submit, you have to let cachetur know which caches you found, when you found them and also which caches you didn’t find. For best result, you should be specific about which trip the finds are assigned. There are 3 possible ways of getting a lot of logs into your backlog:

  • Fieldnotes from a GPSr

If you are out in the fields with a dedicated GPS, you mark your findings on this device. Now it is time to turn those into logs on cachetur.no.

First; if there are several trips in your gps, and you want to make sure that your trip report gets accurate, you need to edit your geocache_visits.txt in order to have just the findings for the trip in the file. You find this file on your gps under X:/garmin/ and you may copy that content over to a new .txt-file for this job.

  • Drafts from an app

If you are caching with an app, you might log your findings as drafts on geocaching.com with your geocaching app. When you are back on your computer, you can order cachetur.no to download the drafts for you. In the Post-trip assistant, you find Logs, and then Import drafts from geocaching.com:

You will now get a list of all the drafts you have on geocaching.com. If you have drafts from several trips, be sure to check the date and time of the logs before the import. You may choose each log individual (1), or choose to import all (2). When ready, press Copy (3).

  • Logs from the Cachetur Trip Assistant

If you are using our Trip assistant to mark your findings on your trip, you can upload those notes to cachetur.no after (or during) your trip. Just press the 3 dots in the upper right corner on your trip and select Send notes and checklists to cachetur.no.

In your Post-trip assistant, you will now find Notes from the app. Before you convert the notes to logs, you have to create field notes from them:

  • Pictures in logs

If you have more than a couple of pictures you want to attach to your logs, you might Upload pictures in bulk.

In order to write the individual logs, you find the first log you are gonna write, and click on the link in the list:

You then get a page with a lot of information on it:

  • Bulk upload pictures

If you are using a lot of pictures in your logs, uploading them one by one can be very time consuming. Therefore you may upload pictures i bulk as long as you have a trip with logs to assign the pictures with. While in the Post-trip assistant, go to Logs and find Upload pictures in bulk:

In the next window, you may now either just drag and drop your pictures for this trip, or click in the field and select the pictures from there (1). The pictures needs to be scaled if bigger than 3 Mb, so it may take some time in order to get them uploaded. You will see the progress on the pictures as cachetur.no are working with them. There are a limit of how big the pictures can be if the resizing can work, as stated in the field.

  • Publish logs

In order for cachetur.no to publish your logs, you need to change the status from DRAFT to PUBLISH in the Backlogg. You find the Backlogg by either the menu on top of the logs:

Or by clicking on your username in the top right corner, and find Backlogg there:

In this list, you now mark your first log by clicking on the checkbox (1). Then hold SHIFT on the keyboard, and click on the checkbox on the last cache (2):
